International University of East Africa (IUEA) secured their first ever win in the University Football League after beating Kampala University 2-1 in a hot-tempered game on Wednesday.

IUEA completed their debut season last year without a win, managing two draws and tasting defeat four times.

In their second season though, they hit the ground running with a positive result at home in Kansanga against a Kampala University side that surrendered their 1-0 lead.

The visitors went for an attacking approach right from the go and their persistence paid off 20 minutes into the game when Shamil Kimwero struck to give Kampala the lead.

But after the interval, IUEA tactician Denis Latim made reforms that the dimension of the game.

The hosts' tactical approach in the second half saw Abraham Sudier twice find the back of the net to put IUEA in the driver's seat.

Kampala coach sent off

In a dramatic episode during the match, tempers flared and led to an inflamed Kampala coach Vincent Tumusiime being given marching orders for confronting referee Alex Wasswa over what he felt was unfair officiating.

"Before the game, that referee promised to discipline us for apparently late coming, yet the hosts were not even ready for the warm-ups by the time we arrived," said the irate coach.

"So he decided to officiate the game in favour of the home team," he claimed.

"I told him what he was doing was simply unfair. In the buildup to IUEA's first goal, there was a handball. He ignored it. Before they won the freekick for their second goal, there was a foul on our player and he also turned a blind eye.

"As a coach, I could not sit back and just watch. I confronted him, only for him to send me off," said Tumusiime.

After the game, referee Wasswa was escorted off the pitch by security.

This was a third meeting of the two teams in the league. Last year, their two encounters ended goalless.
