Rukaari- Mbarara rally in Mbarara

Rally driver Rauf Adam has vowed to better his previous performances by finishing on the podium in the Rukaari-Lake Mburo Mbarara rally in Mbarara district on Saturday and Sunday.

His best performance was in 2016 when he finished seventh overall, while navigated by veteran rally navigator David Shihoka from Zambia.

In 2018 Rauf, navigated by George Ssemakula in a Mitsubishi Evo 10, dropped out during the last section of the event while in second position as he chased eventual winner Jas Mangat.

"It is time to prove that in the previous event we just had bad luck. We are going for a win in Mbarara, at worst settle for a podium slot," the Total-fuelled driver said.

The event, which is the opening round of the seven National Rally Championship rounds, promises to be a gruelling event because of the class of drivers who made the entries.

Thirty-three crews including threetime NRC winner Ronald Ssebuguzi, 2008 NRC champion Dr. Ahmed Ashraf, Rajiv Ruparelia, Duncan "Kikankane" Mubiru, Hassan Alwi, Samuel Watendwa, Dr. Geofrey Nsereko and Abdul Kateete are already entered for the race.

The event will have nine stages; covering a total distance of 294kms of which 145.9kms are competitive.

Last year Mangat, navigated by Joseph Kamya in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 won the event that ended prematurely after he knocked dead a boda-boda cyclist.
