Oilers Omony in race to be for the 2020 season

Feb 06, 2020

Omony has been out for about four months and missed a bigger part of the regular season and the play-offs.

City Oilers' and Silverbacks forward Stephen Omony is recuperating well after undergoing surgery on his left knee.

Omony has been out for about four months and missed a bigger part of the regular season and the play-offs following the injury, but underwent successful surgery during
their title run-in with the UCU Canons.

Omony and Congolese forward Francis Azolibe who underwent similar surgery celebrated their 7th league title with teammates while on crutches last months and will undergo another review this week to determine how long they will remain on the sidelines.

It is the longest injury he has suffered in his industrious career.

"My rehabilitation is progressing well and I'm due for review this Friday, and the review will determine how long I will be out," Omony said.

Illustrious career
Omony has been the poster boy of Ugandan basketball for a long time playing for different clubs over three decades and has featured for four Ugandan clubs in his 22-
year basketball career on top of other professional stints with PSL Hawks of Seychelles and three other clubs outside the country.

He played for Blue Jackets, Falcons, Miracle Eagles and is now with the City Oilers with who he has won the National Basketball League twice and the Zone V championship.

He attributed his long stay in the game to disciple and hard work as he signed for the Oilers in 2017.

The Oilers missed his services as they failed to qualify for the inaugural Basketball Africa league, and they could miss him again in this year's FUBA opening fixtures tentatively set for March.
