JINJA - One body was retrieved while four people were rescued after a building collapsed in Jinja district today evening. Scores are feared to still be trapped under the debris.
By 10:30pm, Red Cross - who were trying to rescue victims together with the Police and local authorities - said they had called off the rescue mission due to darkness. The exercise is expected to resume tomorrow morning.
"An excavator will be deployed tomorrow. It is believed that more people were at levels 1 and 2 plastering and since it is the topmost floor which caved in, those in the basement (levels 1 and 2) are still trapped," Red Cross said in a statement.
