IMMIGRATION              CHAKA CHAKA       DEPORTATION

Immigration officials have deported South African legendry musician Yvonne Chaka Chaka hours before her slated performance at the Nkuuka show, a Buganda Kingdom's Central Broadcasting Corporation (CBS) organized concert in Lubiri Palace in Kampala city.

The security officials cordoned off Pearl of Africa Hotel (AYA) in Nakasero, Kampala and ordered Chaka's Uganda promoters, and other groups to leave the hotel.

They also barred journalists from taking pictures and videos and many had there gadgets and phones confiscated and forced to delete the images.

Later, the security personnel escorted the musician to Entebbe Airport, a day after she jetted into the country.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga said that a security task team that was working closely with the immigration officials on Tuesday afternoon escorted Chaka Chaka to Entebbe where he said she boarded her next flight back to South Africa via Kigali in Rwanda a day after she jetted into the country.

He said that the musician had been granted an ordinary visa as a visitor to Uganda, which was cancelled by immigration officials after it was realized that she had come as a performing artist in one of the New Year's events.

"As a result, she was advised to together with her promoters to get the right working visa that could enable her to perform at any musical performance and avoid the pretence of an ordinary visit," he said.

He explained that the ordinary visa cannot enable any visitor to Uganda to perform in any income-generating activity in the country, including music concerts and all forms of music events.

"This was essentially done by the officials to maintain the integrity of immigration rules including foreign musicians".

"We are hopeful that Miss Muhinga (Chaka Chaka) will once again visit Uganda when she applies for the right visa," he said.

Andrew Mukasa alias Bajo, one of the organizers of the Nkuuka concert said it was painful that the government had decided to deport Chaka Chaka, tagging her deportation to her open love expressions towards People Power leader, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, who also doubles as Kyadondo East legislator.

"Yes, we had invited her to perform in the concert, but they have decided to turn the matter political," he said.

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi is always the chief guest at the concerts.

Sources revealed that the government was also not comfortable that on several occasions Chaka Chaka had referred to Bobi as the next Mandela and openly expressed her love for him.

On arrival on Monday, Chaka Chaka told journalists that Uganda was her second home and was pleased to come back again. Last year, Chaka Chaka performed with Bobi Wine at a charity concert organized by Shule Foundation, aimed at raising money to build a school for former street children.
