Other sporting activities will include netball and football galas in Entebbe and a chess tournament in Ntinda

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will celebrate this year's International Civil Aviation Week held annually worldwide December 1-7, with four sporting disciplines.

Leading the sporting disciplines is golf which CAA has bankrolled to a tune of sh25m towards the Seniors Golf Open to be played at the Uganda Golf Course, Kitante November, 30-December 1, as part of the celebrations.

Other sporting activities will include netball and football galas in Entebbe and a chess tournament in Ntinda, as part of the annual celebrations on top of a stakeholder meeting next month.

Civil Aviation Authority Principal Public Affairs Officer Kenneth Otim presented the cheque to Uganda Seniors Golfing Society's (USGS) Chairman Mark Ntege who was in the company of member Sam Onek and treasurer Patrick Billy.

"Since 2016 we have partnered with the seniors to develop golf in the country and we have progressively increased our sponsorship because we look at golf a sport that has many frequent fliers through Entebbe Airport.

"But they also have people that have connections, so when we connect with them our corporate organization gets brand visibility the reason we have continued sponsoring them, because of the value of participants that engage in this activity," Otim stated.

USGS Chairman Ntege said their association has a big membership of over 100 active members with an aim of developing golf across the country.

"We feel it is our responsibility as seniors to encourage Ugandans play golf and we have this year traveled to Mbarara, Arua and Fort Portal to promote the game," Ntege said.

He said senior golfers from Kenya and Rwanda will be part of the action at Kitante where the top players stand to walk away with trophies and other goodies.
