Uganda national ladies' golf team will not be short on inspiration as the 5th edition of the East and Central Africa Regional Challenge Trophy tournament tees off at Entebbe Club on Thursday.

Some of Uganda's team members are coming off achieving impressive results from different competitions which they hope to build on to win the championship for the first time.

Uganda is represented by Irene Nakalembe, Peace Kabasweka, Martha Babirye and Gloria Mbaguta with ULGU president Eva Magala as team manager.

Kabasweka and Nakalembe finished first and second in the Tanzania Open while Uganda Ladies Open champion Babirye is enjoying one of the best seasons of her career having already bagged three majors this year and finished second last weekend in the Kinyara Open.

"This year, my game has been on and I have been trying to improve it further with the national team and coach and we want to maintain teamwork. We are well prepared and we are all coming off achieving good results, so we want to win it," Babirye said.

"We are at home and we have been practicing very hard to keep the trophy here,"

"It feels great to be on the national team, it is such an achievement and I'm looking forward to playing well to make my country proud. I'm very well prepared and will take on whoever comes my way, but it is all about managing the game on the course," Kabasweka stated.

The Ugandans are up against golfers from Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia over three days of competition, in the tournament sponsored by R&A, MAC East Africa (Isuzu), CAA, UTB, Job Connect, GK Sports, Pearl Seeds and UBL.

Uganda finished second behind two-time winner Zambia the last time the event was held in Malawi in 2015.

On Saturday, Entebbe Club members who patronize the balcony (Kabalaza) and the restaurant (Katogo) will join the action in the subsidiary event.
