Uganda's annual inflation has dropped by 0.5% to 2.1% for the year ending August 2019 compared to 2.6% recorded during the year ended July 2019.
The statistics were revealed in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) offices on Friday in Kampala.
UBOS released the CPI attributing the inflationary drop to a decrease in core inflation to 2.7% in August 2019 compared to 3.5% registered in July 2019.
The CPI measures price changes of goods and services over a given period of time.
Vincent Nsubuga, the UBOS principal statistician in charge of prices, told journalists on Friday that the drop was due to drop in prices of sugar, clothing and footwear which declined to 3.5% from 4.5% during the period under review.
In addition, annual food crops and related items inflation decelerated further to -1.4% compared to -0.8% recorded in July 2019.
