Aug 27, 2019

The first footage was captured by fixed cameras at Mulago Market commonly known as Ku Kasaawe on July 21 at around 8:11 pm

The Police has released Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of artist Michael Alinda commonly known as Zigy Wyne, showing how he was dropped by ‘Good Samaritans' at Mulago National Referral Hospital before his demise, last month.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the footage was obtained by security cameras that captured moments under which, Zigy, was transported on a bodaboda to Mulago Hospital on July 21, by two helpers.

"The footage was captured on two cameras that were relevant and took consideration of the location, time and details," said Enanga.

Explaining the footage, Enanga said the first footage was captured by fixed cameras at Mulago Market commonly known as Ku Kasaawe on July 21 at around 8:11 pm.

Explaining the footage, Enanga said it shows three people on a motorcycle who include the rider, Zigy Wyne and a helper who appeared to be supporting the victim.

While addressing a press conference on Monday, Enanga said Good Samaritans were identified as Amos Turyamureba the rider of the bodaboda and David Kimbowa a staff member of Hope Clinic located on the Northern Bypass.

The second security camera, at Mulago Causality Ward, shows how the trio arrived at the hospital at 8:12 pm.

According to Enanga, Zigy Wine who appeared weak was being supported by the rider and the helper. It further shows how they led the victim in the general direction of the causality ward.

During the press conference, Enanga applauded the generosity of the Good Samaritans, who helped take the victim to the hospital.

Kampala North regional Criminal Investigations chief, Topher Gimeyi- led the team reconstructing what transpired on the evening Zigy was dropped at Mulago Hospital.

In a recent press conference, Enanga said "Zigy died of injuries sustained from an accident. There is nothing to hide. We shall release the footage once it is retrieved."

Enanga revealed that family members face charges relating to concealing information, adding that the file was still open.

More details about Zigy's death emerged early this month - indicating that he was hit by a speeding taxi as he tried to regain control of his bike after he knocked a nursery school teacher.

According to an eyewitness, when Zigy knocked the teacher, Loy Atworo, he lost control and in the process, a speeding taxi knocked him before he plunged into a ditch.

Atworo, 24, who teaches at Happy Army Academy Nursery School, was knocked as she returned to her home in Mulimira Zone from the school at around 7:30 pm on July 21.

New Vision revisited the accident scene in Kyebando-Kisalosalo, Kawempe division and spoke to Khalifah Musoke, a cargo truck driver who said he witnessed the incident.

Musoke, who operates at Kyebando-Kisalosalo stage, said on the fateful evening, the rider while heading towards the Kalerwe-Kisaasi along the Northern Bypass, knocked a female before he got knocked by a taxi.

"Unfortunately, he tried to overtake a speeding commuter taxi. It is at the point that a taxi that was heading in the opposite direction knocked him with the side-mirror before he landed in a trench face-first," Musoke explained.

Other bodaboda operators at the stage adjacent to the accident scene corroborated Musoke's recollection of events but requested that their identities remain anonymous.

Earlier, the Police gave a detailed account of what led to Zigy's death. Contrary to earlier reports that Zigy, was kidnapped and tortured, the Police said the musician was involved in an accident, which caused him injuries that led to his death.  He was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mitooma district.

Earlier reports had indicated that Zigy was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people and later dumped at the gate of Mulago National Referral Hospital after he was tortured him.

However, Enanga while addressing journalists gave a different account of what transpired and paraded eyewitnesses to corroborate.

"Zigy was riding his sports bike registration number UDC 434W and he knocked a teacher, Loy Atworo, who teaches at Happy Army Academy Nursery School. He fell off his bike and he landed in a trench, hitting his forehead on boulders," Enanga explained.

"After the accident, both victims were picked up by Good Samaritans who took them to a nearby clinic," he said.

Enanga said the good Samaritans called Atworo's relatives; James Otim and Polly Adong, who responded and took care of her while at the clinic.

While Zigy was referred to Mulago due to his deteriorating condition, Atworo was not referred and her condition was managed at Hope Clinic.

"But before taking him to Mulago, Zigy was first taken to Kamwokya Christian Care Community Clinic. It was from here that a one Dr Golooba referred him to Mulago. At that time, the information we have shows that Zigy had no identification and he remained unknown. That he was bleeding from the nose and mouth, and his fingers were injured," narrated Enanga.

The Police publicist said Zigy was admitted to the neurosurgical department at Mulago and his patient number 471567/19 as an unknown accident victim.

"On July 27, after his relatives showed up, he was identified as Michael Alinda. Doctors told his relatives that Zigy's needed a CT scan, and the relatives decided to take him to Nsambya Hospital until July 30 when his condition deteriorated and they returned him to Mulago," he said.

Upon bringing him back to Mulago, Alinda was given a new number 1679/19 under his name birth name Michael Alinda.

"At this time, the relatives were aware that Zigy was an accident victim. But they chose to keep quiet and give chance to political opportunists to falsely accuse the government of kidnap, torture and murder which is not true. For five days, his relatives knew he was in the hospital. Do not politicise death," he stated.

Explaining the burns on Zigy's body, Enanga said they were inflicted by the bike's exhaust pipe since it fell on him.

The injuries to his head, Enanga added, were due to the fact that Alinda was not wearing a helmet although he had it fastened around the speedometer of his bike.
