Senior immigration official on the run over permits

The Internal Affairs Spokesperson Jacob Shems Siminyu on Friday noted that the suspect went missing from immigration on Tuesday.

A key suspect in the ongoing work permit fraud investigations at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) in the Ministry of Internal Affairs has reportedly gone missing. 

Steven Bakeera Kizito, who is the Senior Accounts Assistant attached to the Passport Payment Receipt Verification Unit and the key suspect, reportedly went missing on Wednesday shortly before the Police arrested his two colleagues.

The Internal Affairs Spokesperson Jacob Shems Siminyu on Friday noted that the suspect went missing from immigration on Tuesday.

"The Police couldn't find him in his office when they went to effect an arrest but our investigations team are doing whatever is necessary to apprehend him," Siminyu noted.

He noted that the investigations had so far yielded fruits but that their Audit department had been asked to try to establish the magnitude of the work permit fraud in the Ministry.
