UNRA engineer's body found in forest

The Police in Kampala is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a mechanical engineer working with the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), whose body has been recovered in a forest.

Police suspect that Eng. Milton Turyareeba, 34, a supervisor attached to Kabale UNRA station, was strangled yesterday.

His body was found dumped in a forest at Namagoma A zone, off Kampala-Masaka highway in Kyengera town council, Wakiso district.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said a security guard, who is attached to a private firm, yesterday saw the body a few metres from the road.

The guard (names withheld) said he was going to a nearby trading centre to charge his cellphone.

At the time of his death, Turyareeba wore a grey shirt, blue jeans and a grey pair of canvas shoes. His hands and legs were tied with ropes. His head was covered with a cloth.

The area LC1 chairperson, Geoffrey Makumbi, said some children have since reported seeing people travelling in a white saloon car and parking around the place where the body was recovered.

The vehicle is said to have been in the area at about 11:00 am yesterday.

Makumbi said Turyareeba had many documents, including an invoice, indicating that he had received over sh5m a day before.

"It looked like he was strangled elsewhere and dumped here," he said.

Allan Ssempebwa, the UNRA media manager, described the incident as tragic. Turyareeba had worked with the organisation for three years.

It is reported that Turyareeba left Kabale with a group of people, but it was not clear whether he made a stopover at Masaka.

"That information would have come from his immediate boss, but he is in terrible grief," Ssempebwa said, adding that the deceased was married and had children.
