KCCA, Proline face CAF tests

Aug 10, 2019

KCCA will be away against Namibia’s African Stars in the CAF Champions League

Coach Shafik Bisaso is a man on a mission. He wants to set a mark by joining that exclusive club of coaches who have made it to the continental club group stage on their debut.

That mission starts at Lugogo today with a Confederations Cup preliminary encounter against Malawi's Masters Security Services.

"Advancing from this stage is very possible. That's why we are under no pressure despite being newcomers on the continent," said a confident Bisaso on Friday.

"We have prepared very well and we are set. One thing we know about the opponents is that they are physical and are good at crossing. They play a 4-4-2 system so we mastered their formation. Long balls are their other strong point. On paper, we might appear as underdogs but on the pitch we are tigers," he added.

Skipper Noordin Bunjo and Bright Anukani will form the dynamo which Bisaso will rely on if Proline's quest to make history is to materialise.

The winner between Proline and the Malawi side will play either Rwanda's AS Kigali or Tanzania's KMC in the next stage.

Proline is seriously eyeing the group stages where they will be assured of at least $275,000 (sh1b).

KCCA on the spot

Uganda's other representatives KCCA will on the same day be away against Namibia's African Stars in the CAF Champions League.

Coach Mike Mutebi is confident his troops can just like in their last campaign of the coveted competition make it to the group stage.

"We need to get a good result away before our home game later this month and the only way for us to achieve this is not to underrate our opponents."

KCCA will go into the Sam Nujoma stadium, first leg battle with a largely young side that is also full of confidence.

KCCA have just won the CECAFA Club Championship and the nucleus of the team also featured in the Africa Nations Championship and Africa Cup of Nations.

Mutebi is likely to opt for Mike Mutyaba and Sadat Anaku striking partnership. But the hosts have warned that KCCA are in for a big surprise.

"I don't think it's going to be a tough match, I know we can't predict much in sport but all I know is that my boys will do well on Saturday. Individually, they (players) have been doing well and I now wait for positive results on the weekend."
