KAMPALA - On Sunday Nkumba University ladies volleyball club beat their arch-rivals and defending champions Ndejje University ladies volleyball club in a three straight contest to win this year's championship.

Nkumba had a thrilling tournament throughout the group stages where they won all their three games against Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC), Cobap volleyball club and Espoir volleyball club to qualify for the semifinal stage where they went past KCCA to set up the final against Ndejje.

"It was not a challenging campaign for us," said the Nkumba head coach Tonny Lakony after winning the 23rd edition of the NSSF KAVC Volleyball Championship on Sunday at the Lugogo MTN Indoor stadium.

Lakony said the tournament was not competitive for the Entebbe based side right from the start after Rwandan and Kenyan sides pulling out of the tourney.

Nkumba ladies have continued with their wonderful run this year having won Kabaka birthday Volleyball Open, KIU open, Aporu Okol memorial, Genocide memorial and now the NSSF KAVC Volleyball Memorial Volleyball tournament.

The team also went home with sh9.2m as the prize money that was given to the winners of both men and women categories in the tournament
