Pius Bigirimana has been the permanent secretary for the ministry of gender

The out-going permanent secretary to the Judiciary, Kagole Kivumbi, on Wednesday handed over office to Pius Bigirimana.

The formal handover was presided over by the Chief Justice, Bart Katureebe, at the High Court in Kampala.

President Yoweri Museveni appointed Bigirimana as permanent secretary to the Judiciary last week, replacing Kagole, who was sent on forced leave.

Prior to the appointment, Bigirimana was the permanent secretary for the ministry of gender.

Bigirimana was sent to the Judiciary to fix the mess that is eating up the third arm of government.

James Ebitu, a trained economist was handpicked by Bigirimana to replace him at the gender ministry.

Of late the judiciary has been in the limelight for a string of accountability related allegations, including the questionable procurement deals.

MPs on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have also been investigating the judiciary over allegations of money deposited on personal accounts of Judges, and other related queries raised by the Auditor General, John Muwanga.

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Justice Irene Mulyagonja, is also conducting special investigations into corruption in the judiciary.
