Armed men kidnap two children in Kanungu, flee to DR Congo

Police say the two children were kidnapped on Saturday when they had gone to scare birds away from a rice garden with their mother Joseline Ampeire.

Police in Butogota, Kanungu district are investigating the kidnap of two teenagers; Akim Niwagaba, 13 and Ramathan Ayinamani,10 by armed men who later escaped into neighbouring DR Congo.

The area Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, said the two children are pupils of Ntungamo Primary School in Butogota town council in Kanungu district.

Police say the two juveniles were kidnapped on Saturday when they had gone to scare birds away from a rice garden with their mother Joseline Ampeire.

They are sons of Seth Bahati, a resident of Kyabuyorwa Upper Eastern ward, Butogota town council.

Preliminary investigations show that the assailants were armed with an AK47 gun and were wearing army camouflage.

"The two boys were kidnapped from a place called Manure, located in Bugarama cell, Munyaga parish, Binza sub-county in DR Congo," Maate said.

Police registered the kidnap case vide SD:10/20/7/2019 on Saturday as they intensify hunt for the kidnappers.
