The Uganda Police Force has arrested a key suspect in the gruesome murder of a bodaboda rider seen on CCTV footage on June 30, 2019.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that the suspect, John Bosco Mugisha, was arrested at Nsike 1, Ndeeba in Rubaga division on Tuesday night.

“He confessed that Young Mulo (not the musician) his co-accused was killed by a mob on the same day they committed the murder on suspicion that they had stolen a motorbike,” Onyango stated.

Mugisha confessed that they had stolen a motorcycle in Mityana on July 2, 2019, and they were traced up to Makindye in Kampala where a mob pounced on them, killing his colleague but he was able to escape and went to Kabale.

Onyango noted that Mugisha had been arrested several times and had been to Luzira Prison on charges of robbery and theft before.

On June 30, 2019, Mugisha and his colleague murdered Derrick Mulindwa a resident of Nabweru who they hit several times on the head using a metal bar, in Kakyeka, Mengo in Rubaga division.

Mugisha confessed that they hailed Mulindwa at around 4 am and pounced on him shortly after. He grabbed Mulindwa by the neck and choked him as his colleague held the motorcycle.

Mugisha's colleague parked the motorcycle and used the metal bar to hit Mulindwa on the head after pulling off his helmet. They later fled on the stolen motorcycle.

Earlier footage from the same scene showed the two suspects surveying the same area and hiding the murder weapon before they wooed Mulindwa.

Onyango said the suspect is currently being held at Katwe Police Station and will be charged with robbery and murder.
