Nkumba out to defend Genocide Memorial title

The team will travel to Kigali on Wednesday where they will be defending the trophy they won after humiliating Kenya’s KCB last year

After winning their third trophy in a row in half a year, the Nkumba University Volleyball Club (NUVC) ladies are determined to retain the Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournament slated for June 28-30 in Kigali.

The NUVC ladies who resumed training last week ahead of the tournament are coming off wins in the Aporu Okol Memorial Volleyball Tournament after beating the 2018 champions Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) ladies.

The Aporu trophy made it three triumphs for the Entebbe-based after beating rivals Ndejje in back-to-back finals of both the Kabaka Birthday Volleyball Tournament and Kampala international University Open.

The team will travel to Kigali on Wednesday where they will be defending the trophy they won after humiliating Kenya's KCB 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 26-24).

However, the team captained by Doreen Akiteng has not changed much from the team that won the championship last year.

"We are determined and have been preparing for this moment. Winning every game is our aim and we promise to bring it back home," Akiteng vowed after a training session in Entebbe on Friday.

Nkumba ladies will together with KAVC, KCCA and Espoir represent Uganda's women teams while Nkumba men, Nemostars, KCCA, KAVC and Sport-S have confirmed their participation.
