Nakasero Hospital to upgrade to first-class facility

Dr. Rukwaro said the expansion of the hospital will be done in phases following the increasing demand by the populace for high-quality medical care which is being threatened by non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

KAMPALA-Nakasero Hospital is to upgrade to a first-class modern health facility at a tune of $10m.
 
This was revealed by the Nakasero Hospital chief executive officer, Dr. Edward Rukwaro during the hospital's 10th-anniversary celebrations at Kampala Serena Hotel.
 
Dr. Rukwaro said the expansion of the hospital will be done in phases following the increasing demand by the populace for high-quality medical care which is being threatened by non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

He said strategies should be developed to address the increasing cases of NCDs as a result of poor health lifestyles.
 
The chief executive officer was addressing guests during a dinner to mark the hospital's 10thanniversary in Kampala.
 
He said the move for first-class health facility is also intended to reduce the number of patients seeking treatment in foreign countries as well as cutting foreign exchange outflows.
 
He said once the facility is complete it will be a centre of excellence in the region.
 
 
Dr. Rukwaro told guests that facility will comprise of four critical departments among them cardiology, women and child IVF, orthopedic care, spine and joints surgery.
 
"We want to make sure that we shall offer first class health care," Dr. Rukwaro said.
 
During the function, Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who was a chief guest unveiled the new artistic impression of the Nakasero Hospital planned expansion.
 
Nakasero Hospital was co-founded by Dr. Ben Mbonye.
 
Present at the dinner was the former Premier Amama Mbabazi and other dignitaries.
