In the face of disaster, following an awful campaign in the ICC Africa World Cup T20 qualifier, the Cricket Cranes look to pick up the pieces in the upcoming ICC Challenge League in August.

The inaugural tournament replaces the World Cricket League as a pathway to the long format of the ICC World Cup with Uganda seeded in Group B alongside Hong Kong, Kenya, Jersey, Italy and Bermuda.

"It is really hard to get over the T20 nightmare. But we have two choices; to dwell on the loss or look ahead to redemption. I think the latter is healthier," said Cricket Cranes player Emmanuel Isaneez.

His remarks are a catalyst for "healing" and a huge reminder that there is more to look out for in the near future.

Despite the shortcomings, Patricia Kambarami, the ICC regional development manager, holds Uganda in high regard.

"We cannot ignore the fact that Uganda is a major player in developing the game on the continent at least by the ability to host two international events in a space of two years. This reflects the trust the world governing body has in the hosting country," she said.

Her remarks came during the official closing ceremony over the weekend at Kabira Country Club.

Uganda's Riazat Shah will take pride in his personal feat as the best batsman of the tournament having scored 140 runs with a top score of 53not out.

The 2018 USPA cricketer of the year continues to grow as an effective all-rounder. He was still a stand out in the Africa B qualifier last year in Rwanda.

Christie Viljoen famously known for his leg cutters picked a total of 9 wickets to emerge as the best bowler.

Kenya's Rakeep Patel was equally outstanding, guiding his team to a second place finish to scoop player of series.

Kenya and champions Namibia will represent Africa at the global qualifier later this year in the UAE.
