Uganda makes a slow start in Futures 1

Uganda’s hopes will now lie in David Oringa and Frank Tayebwa who will be in action starting with main draws on Wednesday.

Just like in Futures 1, Uganda made a slow start in the ongoing Futures 2 at UGPRO World Tennis Tour at Lugogo after three of their players were eliminated from the competition.
 
India's Atturu Babji, Hale Darryl from Great Britain and Ahmed Choudhary from Pakistan defeated Edward Birungi (6-4,6-0), Sware Sebulime 6-2, 6-0 and Paul Ssekandi 6-0,6-1 respectively.
 
Uganda's hopes will now lie in David Oringa and Frank Tayebwa who will be in action starting with main draws on Wednesday. Action in Futures 2 resumes Wednesday with games in the second round (singles) of the qualifiers and the main draw of the doubles.
 
Elsewhere, Kenyans Sheila Kotecha and Kevin Cheruiyot stormed the second round of the qualifiers. Kotecha eliminated fellow countrymate Ismael Changawa 6-4,1-6,(11-9) while Cheruiyot stopped Philipp Dittmer from Germany 5-7,7-6(5) (10-5)
 
This is the second year Uganda is hosting the Pro tennis Circuit since being readmitted to the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The Pro Circuit helps to promote and encourage participation in the sport by bringing high-quality tennis to enthusiastic domestic audiences.
 
The three weeks event with $15,000 (sh56m) in cash prizes per Futures will run from May 6 to 25.
