The heavy rains also destroyed plantations in a number of areas

A heavy downpour on Tuesday morning blew part of the roof off the Mpigi district headquarters' building in Kyasanku Zone, Mpigi Town Council.

The heavy rains that started in the morning hours of Tuesday also affected crops and banana plantations that were destroyed by the strong winds.

According to Rosemary Byabasaija, the Mpigi district resident district commissioner, although part of the roof was blown off, no property was destroyed. The office of the assistant District Internal Security Officer was however affected.

"The rains only affected one office of the deputy DISO but other offices are fine and intact, the only good thing is that our building has got a concrete ceiling so the water did not get inside the office to affect files," Byabasaija said.

Lucy Frances Amulen, the Mpigi district Chief Administrative Officer, said they have started working to replace the damaged roof.

The heavy rains also destroyed banana plantations in Buwama sub-county, Nkozi and Mpigi town council. Some houses were left without roofs.
