2000 Ugandans to attend UNAA convention

According to the organisers, over 500 Ugandans have so far registered for the conference.

 

DIASPORA  - Over 2000 Ugandans are expected to attend the 31st Uganda North American Association (UNAA) convention slated for August 29 to September 1 in Chicago.

According to the organisers, over 500 Ugandans have so far registered for the conference.  

Julius Kabugu, the director of communication at UNAA told the New Vision that this year's event will run on the theme, "Cultural Diversity & Economic Empowerment: Creating a Stronger Diaspora Community."

UNAA is the biggest official association of Ugandans in the Diaspora. It is also the largest single travel weekend by Ugandans visiting North America.

The event will be characterised with cultural meetings, a business expo and a music performance by popular Ugandan artists such as Jose Chameleon, Naira Ali, John Blaq and Kenneth Mugabi.

Participants will also have a boat cruise organised for them on Lake Michigan -one of the great lakes among the cruise attraction features lined up for them.

The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Chicago, a popular stay for all things leisure and business.

Last year's event was graced by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga as the chief guest, who encouraged Ugandan MPs to work with UNNA to promote food security.
