Dr Mukiza appointed new UBOS boss

He takes up the position following the resignation of the former UBOS executive director Ben Paul Mungyereza early last year.

KAMPALA - Dr Chris Mukiza has been appointed the new Executive Director of Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).

He took over the job after winning his rival, the acting Executive Director Imelda Atai who also sat for the interview with two others.

His appointment comes at a time when the Bureau has been hanging in suspense since the post was declared vacant; calling for applications to fill it in in July 2018.

Mukiza has worked with the bureau for the past 19 years.  He joined UBOS in March 2000.

He has been the Director of Macroeconomic statistics at the bureau for the past 10 years (since 2009 up to today).

He takes up the position following the resignation of the former UBOS executive director Ben Paul Mungyereza early last year.

Dr. Mukiza has worked with a number of institutions such as the Ministry of Finance in 1992, as a statistician for a period of one year. 

He later joined Uganda Revenue Authority from 1997- 2000.
 
During a phone interview with the New Vision, Mukiza said that he was grateful for the opportunity given to him.

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to lead the Statistical Bureau. My vision is to make the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an excellent centre in the production of statistics in the region and Africa as a whole," Mukiza said.
 
He added that he is looking forward to UBOS taking the lead in the development of quality statistics for good governance & accountability.
