The Ugandans gave it their best but at the end of the day, they paid dearly for the walkover they received for fielding only seven instead of nine players.

Nkumba 0 GSP 3 (22-25, 22-25, 12-25)

Nkumba will be proud of their performances on the court but will be mightily disappointed by the events that denied them a chance to get a foothold at the Africa Club Championships.

On Wednesday, they played their fifth and final game in the group which they lost to GSP of Algeria, ultimately relegating them to fifth and they will not have a chance to fight for places.

The Ugandans gave it their best but at the end of the day, they paid dearly for the walkover they received for fielding only seven instead of nine players.

With that said, they have had to fight their hearts out in every match. They showed a lot of heart by winning against El Shaams but the scoreboard pressure was real against Kenya Prisons and GSP.

"The opponents didn't let up at all and kept their best 6 on the court for the entire match which was a good sign for us because they respected our potential to cause damage if they got complacent," Nkumba Coach Tonny Lakony said after the GSP match.

Lakony felt like the team lost their edge knowing that a quarter-final berth was no longer a possibility.

"But girls still didn't play well today. With the exception of Flavia, the rest were quite average. I think they felt we were already out of the quarterfinals contention," he explained.

Back home men's League champion's Nemostars will host fundraising matches tomorrow at the Lugogo as they continue to look for funds ahead of the men's Africa Club Championships.
