The second edition of the Samson Muwanguzi Memorial Beach Soccer Tournament gets underway this weekend at Lido Beach in Entebbe.

The memorial beach soccer tournament is an annual championship that was previously known as the Copa Entebbe. It is played in honour of the late Samson Muwanguzi, the former proprietor of Lido beach who was integral in the development of beach soccer in Uganda.

The two-day knockout competition was on Tuesday launched at FUFA headquarters in Mengo.

At the launch, FUFA licensing manager and FIFA beach soccer referee, Ivan Kintu Bayige, supervised the draws for the round of 16 matches.

Last year’s finalists Stormers and MUBS were given a bye in the first round while Mutoola Beach Club will play St Lawrence University in the opener.

Mpigi based Kiringente takes on Buganda Royal University while Muteesa I Royal University will face Kampala International University (KIU).

The winning team will walk away with a trophy and gold medals. The first and second runners up will get silver and bronze medals respectively.

Individual awards such as top scorer, best goalkeeper, fair play award and the best overall player (Most Valuable Player) will also be rewarded.
