ULGU to form juniors team for Japan championship
Jan 28, 2019
ULGU president Eva Magala said the children were keen on learning the sport.
The level of enthusiasm was evident as youngsters competed and later received their prizes after the annual juniors' golf open at Kitante on Thursday.
John Ayebare and Doreen Kirabo were the top performers on the day, returning 82 and 87 gross respectively. Both players have dreams of turning pro in the future and have been consistent on the course lately.
"I practice a lot, sometimes every day because I want to play like some of those stars on the PGA tours. I would also like to win the Uganda Open after my S.4," Ayebare a Makerere College School S.3 student said.
For Kirabo, playing for the national team is the immediate target though turning pro is an ‘obvious' choice.
And with Uganda Ladies Golf Union president Eva Magala keen on forming a junior girls' national team, she might not be far from realising her target.
"I hit the ball very well and I was focused," Kirabo said.

ULGU president Eva Magala said the children were keen on learning the sport and said many had quickly grasped the basics of the game. She said they had picked some girls aged between 10-18 years who they are going to continue training ahead of the World Junior Championship in May in Japan.
