Bus with 80 passengers on board overturns

ACCIDENT | ROAD CARNAGE 

KALUNGU - An over-speeding bus, Reg. No. UAY 097G, heading to Rukungiri district from Kampala, over-turned at Lwera stretch, about three Kilometers from Lukaya town, on Wednesday.

Miraculously, all 80 passengers onboard, survived, with some of them sustaining minor injuries.

The survivors said their appeal to the driver to slow down, fell on deaf ears.

The Police are hunting for the driver of the bus belonging to Perfect Bus Company, who disappeared shortly after the incident.

Kalisiti Tumwebaze, one of the survivors, admitted at Mukwano Medical Center in Lukaya, attributed his survival to God's mercy.

He sustained a cut on the face and chest pain but the health workers said he will recuperate.

Masaka regional police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, said the driver is suspected to have been dozing when he lost control of the bus.

The wreckage was towed to Lukaya police station as investigations continue.
Another bus was brought to transport the passengers to their final destination, Rukungiri.
