KAMPALA - Two Mutyabas - Muzamiru and Mike - were on the scoresheet as table leaders KCCA FC opened the gap at the summit with a hard-earned win over BUL FC on Saturday.

With that victory, KCCA established a five-point gap between them and second-placed Vipers SC, who dropped points at home after being held 0-0 by Tooro United the same day.

Mbarara City FC climbed to fourth place after beating Bright Stars FC 2-1 while Maroons FC were also 3-2 winners on the day against Ndejje University.

The Paidha Black Angels v SC Villa game ended in a stalement as neither side managed to rattle the other's net.

Kasasiro Boys steady

It was always going to be a tricky trip to BUL for Mike Mutebi's side.

This game was there to test their degree of endurance after a busy itinerary over the last two weeks involving both domestic and continental obligations.

While KCCA ploughed everything that came in their way - from Mtibwa Sugar FC in a CAF Confederation Cup to Amuka Bright Stars in their Uganda Cup opener -, they looked to returning to winning ways on the road in the league.

The last time they played away in local league football, the Kasasiro Boys emerged second-best, suffering their first defeat of the campaign - 3-2 against Express FC.

But on Saturday, the Lugogo-based side made no repeat of that when they took an early lead through Muzamiru Mutyaba in the 15th minute.

His namesake Mike Mutyaba doubled the score a minute before the half-hour mark as KCCA consolidated their lead.

Jean Kambale pulled one back for BUL in the second half to create a nervy finale, but the visitors held on for three vital points.

Vipers stumble - again

Home usually comes with comfort. But not for Vipers lately.

Exactly a week ago, the Venoms were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Algerian side CS Constantine at St. Mary's Stadium. The 2-0 home defeat was the final nail in the coffin of Javier Martinez Espinoza's side after trailing from the first leg.

The hope was that Saturday's home clash with Tooro United would produce a positive result that would lift the mood at Kitende.

A goalless draw wasn't that kind of result.

It now means that Vipers, who have two games in hand over KCCA, can afford no more slip-ups.

KCCA lead the pack on 30 points from 13 games, Vipers are in second with 25 points from 11 games while Onduparaka FC lie in third with 23 points from 13 games.

Mbarara City leapfrogged URA SC to take fourth place while the tax collectors slid to fifth place.
