Security hunt for killers of Medical association boss

A joint security team has been sent to Iganga to hunt for unidentified gunmen who shot dead Dr. Ibra Gwaluka.

The deputy Police Flying Squad Commandant, Superintendent of Police Charles Obela, says they are already on the ground trying to get leads to the killers.

"The deceased was with his wife coming from Mayuge, but as they reached at their home in Bulubandi central, in Iganga Municipality, Iganga district, unknown gunmen fired bullets on their vehicle, a Toyota Premio, registration number, UAN 893N, and died instantly," Obela said.

He adds that as soon as they got the information about the tragic incident, they engaged in a meeting with other security agencies to ensure they trace the killers.

It is alleged that the deceased's wife who is a magistrate, escaped narrowly.

The security is also investigating to ascertain whether the assailants aimed at the magistrate or the late doctor.

It has also been established that the deceased has been the treasurer of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA), Busoga branch.

His body is currently at Iganga Hospital as investigations into the matter continue.

It should be recalled that, the late Doctoor Sheikh Muwaya, also from Mayuge, was gunned down some years back.

An eyewitness told New Vision, that the deceased saw the gun men and immediately started making alarm.

"His wife asked him what was taking place, but he was trying to speed the vehicle and escape. On hearing the first two bullets, the wife luckily opened the car door and managed to escape. The killer tried to follow her, but later gave up and went for the husband," the source said.

This is the second member of the UMA to be attacked. Its president, Dr. Obuku was the first, at his home in Kyaliwajjala, Wakiso district.
