Denmark-based Lubega to perform at Uganda festival in New York

The songbird who took Denmark by storm with her strong vocals and remix of both English and Luganda has been lined up as one of the top performers at Summer’s Ultimate Event 2019 - The Uganda Festival in New York City, New Vision has learnt.

This year might be arguably one of the best in the life of Denmark-based Ugandan singer Joanita Lubega Zachariassen.

After winning the DR Live singing competitions accolade in Copenhagen, Zachariassen is receiving an avalanche of music performance opportunities and will be spoilt for choice following her success in Denmark, where she bagged the grand prize money worth sh130m in October.

The songbird who took Denmark by storm with her strong vocals and remix of both English and Luganda has been lined up as one of the top performers at Summer's Ultimate Event 2019 - The Uganda Festival in New York City, New Vision has learnt.

Zachariassen told the New Vision in an interview that she looks forward to seeing everyone that loves her and her music at the event organised by Ugandans in North America under their umbrella organisation, Uganda in North America Association Causes (UNAA- Causes). The event is scheduled to take place between August 29 to September 02 at the Grand Hyatt in New York.

"People at the festival should expect my best as a performer because that's what I desire every time I perform. I am a vocalist with a great passion for my performances," Zachariassen said.

The event is famed for its fanfare and is often jam-packed with activities, including business expos, musical performances by popular artists, dinner galas, boat cruises, and fashion shows, among others.

 
Who is Joanita Lubega Zachariassen?

Commonly described as "A small woman with a big voice", Zachariassen was born in 1980s at Mulago Hospital in Kampala Uganda. She is a Christian, singer-songwriter and gospel, pop, soul and Afrobeat artiste based in Copenhagen, in Denmark.

Zachariassen has been in the music industry for 18 years and released her first Album dubbed Kept me going in 2006. It was produced in Uganda by Steve Jean.

According to her website', Zachariassen, in 2009 featured in "Talent Show 09" and the same year she starred in a "Climate service " in Copenhagen's cathedral, where she sang before crowd of over 2,000 people including several heads of state, and other high profile people including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik.

On October 20, 2018, she was declared the winner of the DR Live singing competition 2018 edition bagging the grand prize money sh130m.
