Jinja Golf Club bred professional Brian Toolit returned 71 gross as the 11th edition of the Kakira Open teed off at Jinja Club on Thursday.
Toolit who is coming off winning the Tusker Series professionals' competition at Tooro Club is in joint lead with Saidi Mawa and Abraham Ainamani going into the last roundof the sh10m battle on Friday.
The 2016 Kakira champion saved six birdies on holes number 3,4,8,12 ,14 and 17 to share the lead alongside his clubmate Said Mawa who also registered birdies on holes 2,4,5 , 12 and an eagle on hole number 8.
"My first shot was affected by the new OB on hole-number one where I had a double bogey. However, I composed myself and managed to score a few birdies. I now need to improve on my putting right from the start, but will pray for wet conditions because the dry course affected most of our putting," Toolit said.
Dennis Anguyo and Gerald Kabuye are both tied in second place with 73 gross each, while Grace Ocici, Deo Akope and Ronald Rugumayo are two strokes off the leader with 73 gross each in the Kakira Sugar sponsored tournament.
Meanwhile, Grace Kasango, defending champion Arshraf Bagalana , Philip Kasango, Sunday Lulet and a host of other single handicapped amatuers take to the course on Friday before the main event on Saturday that will have over 100 players in action.
