24-year-old business woman begs for community service

Agasiru pleaded with the grade one court magistrate, Paul Kedi to sentence her to community service because her children are suffering.

ARUA-A 24-year-old business woman, Gloria Agasiru of Oli division was today sentenced to community service at Arua grade one magistrate's court.

Agasiru pleaded with the grade one court magistrate, Paul Kedi to sentence her to community service because her children are suffering.

However, the brief facts of the case are that on  April18,  2018, Agasiru together with her husband Juma Alio were charged with the offence of the intention to steal and burglary.

It was alleged that the convict stole household properties which included four bags of clothes, a financial card, examination result slips which are all valued at sh1.6m

The properties belonged to a one Medina Driciru who was a co-wife to the convict.

However, before receiving the sentence, Agasiru pleaded not guilty to the two offences in her defence of intention to steal and burglary.

"I am not the one who stole the properties, but my husband claimed that he had gone to dance at Alanos in Onduparaka and came back with the items of a woman that he claimed was his first wife", she said.

I told him to return the properties but he told me to leave issues of his first wife and him", Agasiru added.

Arua grade one magistrate sentenced her to five months of community service at the court premises and incase she fails to follow the sentence she will face three years imprisonment.
