Winners of new golf series to play in Thailand

The Uganda Golf Club and Entebbe Clubs will qualify five teams each for the grand finale

A grand, new exciting golfing series that will traverse all regions of Uganda was on Monday unveiled at the Uganda Golf Club with the first round of action slated for Kitante on Friday.

The Tusker Malt Lager Golf Series will be played over 17 weeks, at six golf clubs across the country by all handicapped golfers who will be chasing points, that will win them not only various prizes along the way but also an all-expenses paid golfing holiday in Pattaya, Thailand, after February 2019 when the final will be held at Kitante.

Teams of two each and individuals will be eligible to participate in the four-ball better ball-better stable ford score for each team. Individuals are eligible to contest in as many series events as they can but must play in a minimum of 5 out 7 to qualify for the grand prizes.

Uganda Breweries Marketing Director Juliana Kagwa in the company of co-sponsors representatives; Pepsi, Commercial Bank of Africa Executive Director and Head of Business Gerald Muhereza, Vivo Energy Brand Manager Alex Tusingwire, Ethiopia Airlines Country Manager Abebe Angessa, MTN Senior Manager Technology Solutions Phillp Walera, Kenya Ports Authority's Jezan Mohamed  and Kampala Serena Hotel's Sales Coordinator Eva Babirye, launched the tournament.

"Through the series we hope to build a strong connection with customers for our partners in this venture and for Tusker Malt Lager. We are in great company with the biggest brands on the market in this journey, and for that our commitment over the next 17 weeks is to deliver a memorable golf experience for those who appreciate this game," Kaggwa stated.

After the series opener on Friday, the golfers will head to Tooro Club for the second competition on November 10 before the Mbarara leg on November 24. The tournament will then head to Jinja on December 8 before it heads to the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa on February 2; before the grand finale at the Uganda Golf Club on February 23.

The Uganda Golf Club and Entebbe Clubs will qualify five teams each for the grand finale while other clubs will qualify three each (pairs of two). Declared partnerships remain for the duration of the championship according to some of the tournament rules.

Players on teams will also have their individual scores in their group categories (A, B and C) entered to compete for the individual accolades.
