Businesswoman held over abortion

According to a police source the accused first took her housemaid to a traditional herbalist in Bweyogerere to procure an abortion last week but her condition later worsened.

According to a police source the accused first took her housemaid to a traditional herbalist in Bweyogerere to procure an abortion last week but her condition later worsened.

Police in Iganga are holding a 30-year-old businesswoman for procuring an abortion for her 16-year-old housemaid.

The accused Eva Namukose a businesswoman operating from Bweyogerere, Wakiso district reportedly took her 16-year-old housemaid, Fayima Nakato to a traditional herbalist after discovering that she was five months pregnant.

The accused had earlier suspected her husband to have impregnated the housemaid.

According to a police source the accused first took her  housemaid to a traditional herbalist in Bweyogerere to procure an abortion last week but her condition later worsened.

Namukose  then dumpined her at a private clinic (Jovic Medical Centre) located in Iganga municipality.

The victim said the accused suspected that her husband would dump her after releasing that he had impregnated the housemaid.

The accused had  picked the house maid from Wasimba village,Butagaya sub-county Jinja district last year  to help her with  domestic work at her home in Bweyogerere.

Nakato said efforts to convince her boss that someone else was responsible for the pregnancy proved futile.

The director Jovic Medical Centre, Jaffer Nsadhu said the victim was admitted at the facility while bleeding profusely from her private parts as a result of the abortion but medical personnel did all their best to rescue the victim’s life.

Nsadhu said they are now demanding for sh3.5m from the accused as medical bills for the victims stay at the facility.

The district police commander Iganga, Nassibu Nditta said the accused will  soon  be transferred to Bweyogerere Police Station where the crime was committed.

Nditta said police is looking for a 34-year-old brick maker,  John Kalieu to answer charges of defilement.

The case has been registered as  file number SD-45-27-07-2018 at Iganga Central Police Station.
