UCU Doves lay down marker in win over Nemostars

They have one foot in the playoffs but they are still operating at full speed judging by the way they dispatched Nemostars

The playoffs are not far off and table leaders UCU Doves sent a message to the rest of the league with a 3-1 victory over defending champions Nemostars on Saturday.

Earlier in the season, the Doves defeated Andrew Okapis' side, but the question was; could they do it more than once?

Keeping in mind they are the only unbeaten side, the answer should have been an emphatic yes, but the defending champions have a way with timing. They have been in fine form so this was supposed to be a high quality contest in the Doves' backyard. For all intents and purposes UCU soared.

If anything, this match revealed an extra layer to the kind of side the Doves are becoming because they are not a quick study, like their coach Nasson Bwesigye said.

"The most important thing for us to do right now is get in the play offs," Bwesigye said.

They have one foot in the playoffs but they are still operating at full speed judging by the way they dispatched Nemostars who are second on the table.

As a team of students, they are overly committed to the cause and these two things stood out about them during the weekend.

Relentless

During the third set against Nemostars, they showed their ability to turn a bad situation into a good one. Through their skipper Moses Odeke, they found a weak sport in their opponent's reception which they capitalised on.

They did not take their feet off the gas as they took the fourth set easily which left Nemostars ruing a lost opportunity.

Hunger

If hunger had a look it would probably look like Bwesigye's side for they keep going until they get what they want.

Even when Nemo looked like they would mount a comeback in the fourth set, they found another gear to close out the match.

As things stand, the Doves look like the side to beat when the playoffs start, so the rest of the league has to prepare accordingly because only 100% will be good enough to unsettle them.
