Trojans win Dance Off - The Genesis

Despite losing a member of the crew ahead of the Dance Off finals, the Trojans Sunday night put up an electric performance that saw them crowned Uganda's best dance crew 2018.

From the onset, the Trojans did not look for sympathy, instead they brought energy and style to the finals and no one could deny them the top prize.

Stories were told through dance, there was fire on stage, good synchronisation, splits and superb head spins - the energy showed, they wanted it.

On stage, it was a fusion of among them contemporary dance, acrobatics and traditional dance to provide exotic and futuristic dance styles.

"The next big dance act not just in Uganda, but internationally will come from here" an excited Kenneth Oduka commented after an explosive performance from the crews.

"I don't want to see you feature only in Ugandan videos, we have to see you in international videos, we will get the next big dance crew worldwide from crews right here, it's not a first for Uganda"  Oduka probably had the ghetto kids on mind, who have worked with French Montana making them a global sensation.

The win for Trojans also came with a sh30m prize after edging four crews to be crowned Uganda's best dance crew 2018.

Athena Entertainment Network took the second position Sunday night. Coming out of their comfort of traditional dance, they provided a mix of dancehall, urban and traditional music to leave the judges and fans alike enthralled.

Sh15m was in the bag for them. Jets Crew an all-boys crew who had the came third taking home sh5m.

In the Solo dance category, Vivian Nassali edged Izak Xavier to win the sh1 million prize.

After months of fierce competition with a talented group of dancers Oduka could only promise more for the dance profession in Uganda.

"Like the name goes Dance Off - the genesis it's only the beginning, we will have more seasons. Those who didn't make this time round should aim for season two. We will have more, probably name it Dance off - the exodus since the journey already started with the genesis," he promised.

Remembering the departed

Joseph Segawa Joshua the founder Trojans dance crew says they will use some of the money to start daily income business for Hussein Kudran's mother that was his dream.

Hussein better known as Apple got into an accident and passed on the day after. He was returning from a house party with two other friends from Bweyogere a Kampala Suburb when their vehicle was knocked. Only the driver the driver survived his other Friend Jesse also passed on.

Hussein who was Kenyan but, settled in Uganda was laid to rest in Fortportal Western Uganda.
