The 29-year-old stated Kaizer Chiefs website: “I’ve always known that Kaizer Chiefs is a great football club.”

A new breakthrough for ‘Jajja Walu'. And it is the biggest of his colourful career yet.

Long-serving Uganda Cranes left back Godfrey Walusimbi is headed south to Absa Premier League and African football giants Kaizer Chiefs after inking a three-year deal that should significantly elevate both his career and welfare.

Walusimbi completed his transfer from Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia, where he scripted a title-laden career.

The 29-year-old stated Kaizer Chiefs website: "I've always known that Kaizer Chiefs is a great football club."

"Chiefs play for honours and that's a positive mindset that every player dreams of. Just like every footballer, I always want to move one step further in my career and I think my move to Chiefs is one such step."

Walusimbi becomes the third Ugandan to play for Chiefs after David Obua and Ivan Bukenya. He also becomes the second Ugandan international in the ABSA Premier league after Denis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Allan Kateregga (Cape Town City). Walusimbi will don jersey number 29.

"I have already adapted at Chiefs," concludes Walusimbi. "It is easier to adapt in a professional environment. I look forward to working hard and contribute to the team."

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung sounded more than delighted to secure the signature of a player who started his career at SC Villa.

"It has been an engaging process to finalise this move," says Motaung.

"At the end we are happy the process has been completed, and the player is available to play. We wish him all of the best with us."

What Walusimbi brings to Kaizer Chiefs

Walusimbi's all-round defensive and attacking qualities make him a priceless addition to any side.

Despite his size, Walusimbi is physically strong, comfortable on the ball and adept at getting into attacking positions as a wing-back, where he can deliver crosses to teammates.

He is tactically intelligent, versatile and with good leadership qualities.

He is also a character. He is a constant source of fun and can be a prominent figure in any dressing room.
