KAMPALA - Female junior basketball coach, Mavita Ali, is confident her girls U-18 side will do well when they take to the court at the Girls' African Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.
"First of all I am confident we shall produce results when we go to Maputo. I am also very positive this competition will bring out the best in the girls," she said.
The team entered the competition as tournament wild cards and they will come up against the likes of Mozambique, Angola, Egypt, Algeria and Mali among others.
They go into the tournament on the back of having finished second at the Africa Zone V tournament in Tanzania.
The team unfortunately could not call back the whole team that travelled to Tanzania because their schools preferred that the students participate in the FEASSA games.
"It's not a good thing for the girls to be denied an opportunity like this; they deserve to play at this level. We understand the schools have their competition but this is a very high competition that you cannot deny a girl to be at," Ali said.
She was optimistic that the two replacements would do a good job because they have gelled well with the rest of the team.
