Frisbee: Progress hampered by limited resources

KAMPALA - Ugandan Frisbee may not necessarily be a money pit but certainly it requires some decent resources to run.

Just like any other small sports disciplines in the country, there is a huge financial gap that continues to hinder the progress of the exciting flying disc game.

In a somewhat perpetual manner the sport thrives on individual initiatives to run affairs of what on paper is a well-established association.

The Uganda Ultimate Frisbee Association is fully registered under National Council of Sports and has an executive.

There is a long line of challenges that continue to take away from the game. The association operates on a small cash flow and with a lack of reliable sponsors, the expansion of the game to schools which in turn affects national development.

Shipping Frisbee equipment continues to become hard for the mere fact that the shipping costs are quite high.

For all the years the game has been the country, the lack of a home remains the Achilles heel  for acting chairman Ali Nasser Senfuma  and his executive and hence finding field Space for Clubs and UUFA events has been a big challenge due to high costs.

The association nonetheless has managed to remain positive in the face of the overwhelming challenges. A running mini-league was introduced earlier this year to counter the growing numbers.

Conversely changing the term limit from two to four years as advised by NCS is one of the resolutions the association is looking at as a way forward.

Nevertheless Senfuma is keeping the faith as Frisbee seeks to offset the rather frustrating situation.

"We shall continue facing the situation with a lot of optimism and I belive things will in the end change for the better" he said.

Meanwhile preparations for the 7Hills Classic 15-16 September are ongoing .Impala Ultimate will seek to defend the title they won last year in Entebbe.
