KAMPALA - The neighborhood of Steers popularly known as Biwologoma (BAPS temple), next to the Fire Brigade headquarters, will not be the same in the next two years.

This follows a ground breaking ceremony for a multibillion Shamukh Mall on Tuesday which attracted an exodus of believers, the business fraternity and curious city dwellers.

Eyebrows were raised, in surprise, as petals of flowers, coins, rice and bricks were placed in a pit dug on the site. This was June 12 when the occasion was graced with prayers led by visiting Mahant Swami Maharaj who was surrounded by saints.

"We are proud to have a home away from home," confided the BAPS spokesman Ajay Kaylash. "Our temple is going to have a seven storied building where we can have a library, social events and hold some ceremonies."

Among the crowd was former Tororo MP Sanjay Tana, renowned businessmen and women in their own shelter.

Each took a brick, Tofali style, to the site and donated different sums of cash to enable their dream come true. Activity in the neighborhood ground to a halt as the ground breaking activity went on.
