Bobi Wine ditches FDC for JEEMA's Basalirwa

The failure to agree on a joint candidate has left the opposition divided as back-door political talks continue to take shape

Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, has joined the bandwagon of political activists canvasing support for JEEMA's Asuman Basalirwa in the forthcoming Bugiri Municipality elections.

The move indicates that Kyagulanyi, who in the previous Rukungiri Woman MP by-elections campaigned alongside the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has now ditched the FDC candidate, Eunice Namatende.

"Myself and many other forces of change will be in Bugiri today to support a longtime comrade in the struggle, Asuman Basalirwa, as he gets nominated for Member of Parliament for Bugiri Municipality," Kyagulanyi said.

"Nothing can stop the power of the people from deciding how they should be led," he added, describing Basalirwa's procession from nomination as "massive".

Basalirwa, who was nominated on Wednesday morning, decided to face-off with FDC's Namatende following a fall-out between JEEMA and FDC on the possibility of fronting a joint candidate.

Uganda People's Congress on Wednesday also endorsed Basalirwa's candidature.

The failure to agree on a joint candidate has left the opposition divided as back-door political talks continue to take shape.
