WINDHOEK - The Ugandan side, the She Cranes have withdrawn from participating at the upcoming Namibia Pent Series starting June 9-13 in Windhoek.

Uganda was scheduled to launch their campaign with a game against Zambia on Saturday. Unfortunately, that will not be possible for the domestic side according to the She Cranes team manager Jocelyn Ucanda.

Ucanda added that the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) received the invitation letter very late and they could not assemble a team in the remaining days.

“It’s not our wish not to be part of the series but we received the invitation last week which is a little late for us to assemble a team that has not been training together ever since we returned from the Commonwealth Games,” she stated.

“It’s so unfortunate that they had already included us on the fixture but looking at the current team situation, it is better we don’t go rather than get humiliated at the games,” Ucanda added.

Ucanda also told New Vision that the time left to the series is not enough to also chase for the team’s visas.

“Basically all conditions surrounding the tour are not favoring us and yet we have a brand to protect,” she stated.

Uganda, ranked seventh, was expected to be the highest ranked nation at the second edition of the annual series tournament that will be held at the Patrick Iyambo Police College in Olympia.

But their withdrawal now leaves Zimbabwe (15th) as the top ranked team at the series followed by Zambia (16th), Botswana (21st) and host Namibia (36th) in the contest.
