“Many bus companies have been losing their licenses after thorough investigations into the cause of any accident," Kayima.

The Police is still investing the cause of the Kiryandongo road accident, which occurred on Friday last week, killing 23 people.

Addressing journalists at Kampala Central Police Station, the police force's publicist, Emilian Kayima said the team of investigators is already on ground to trace the real cause of the accident.

"We got information that the bus driver caused the accident as he tried to overtake a tractor which had no reflectors and indicators. But our team is on ground to get the exact cause of the accident before coming to a conclusion," he said.

Without giving details; Kayima said the driver of the Gaga Bus survived with severe injuries undergoing treatment under police watch.

"We are waiting for him to get through; so that he can be questioned. Right now, we can't ask him anything because he is still unstable with a lot of pain," he noted.

He also noted that the Director of Traffic and Transport Licensing Board are already in a meeting discussing the matter.

"Many bus companies have been losing their licenses after thorough investigations into the cause of any accident. Right now, we cannot conclude anything until investigations are done," Kayima said.

On whether other bodies are still missing, he said everything will be released in the report after investigations are complete. A bus carries between 60 and 70 passengers.

"Some people claim the bus was full board but of now we cannot confirm that. Our team will get more details because when you look at the wreckage, it is hard to believe whether anyone survived but you saw some survived," he added.

Kayima cautioned all bus drivers to follow traffic regulations and avoid driving recklessly to protect people's lives.
