Eight year old killed by fourteen-year-old minor

The father of the deceased, Simon Oromo said his daughter had gone to collect shea nuts from their garden, where she met with the suspect who later fought her and caused her death.

An 8- year-old girl from Opiro village, Olelai Parish Aperkira sub-county in Kaberamaido district has been killed, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Kaberamaido, Godfrey Abigaba confirmed.


Sharon Adebo was hit several times on the head and later strangled by a sting of cloth by another 14-year-old minor. The deceased was a primary two pupil at Opiro primary school.


The father of the deceased, Simon Oromo said his daughter had gone to collect shea nuts from their garden, where she met with the suspect who later fought her and caused her death.

According to a report by Suluman Eding, the deceased was hit on the weak part of her head, leading to her death. Eding added that injuries were also found around the neck of the deceased due to a string of cloth used in strangling her.

Stella Iwolu, mother of the suspect said that her daughter has a mental problem. It is alleged that her daughter was also beaten by angry people, and her condition was not okay. Iwolu added that she needed protection as she had fears that she could be mistreated by the relatives of the deceased.

The DPC Abigaba said that they were going to subject the suspect to medical check up to ascertain her condition and mental uprightness.

Meanwhile, the officer in charge of children affairs, Jannet Amuge said it was very unfortunate for children to engage in activities that lead to lose of lives. "If investigations are complete and the resident state attorney advises us to take her to court, she will have to appear for murder", Amuge said. Amuge advised parents to take care of their children to see that they do not become delinquents.
