KAMPALA - Ugandan Frisbee is on the way to new levels. With a change in personnel at the core of administration, fresh ideas are rolling out.
Ali Nasser Ssenfuma, the incoming president of the Uganda Ultimate Frisbee Association has drawn a master plan of promoting the exciting game of discs in the country.
A member of the Impala Ultimate his administrative abilities have already been tested with success stories in a number of events. He was involved in organising the first edition of the All Africa Ultimate Club Championships (AAUCC) 2015 in Uganda.
The 32 year old was also successful in partly organising the 2016 Seven Hills Classic.
"I believe I have gathered enough experience to propel the game" he adds.
Starting a national league is high on the agenda as Nasser takes over from Brian Kaswa at the helm of the federation.
"The national league would help the game become more competitive as we aim for greater heights. A number of new faces are expected to join the wave" Nasser said.
The seemingly visionary character hopes further to take the game to schools in a bid to discover and nurture raw talent.
It is imperative to note that Ssenfuma has seen the game grow over time. There are three official clubs that include Impala, Magnum Opus and Entebbe Ultimate.
Meanwhile Jane Gakuru and Jamil Kisubi were appointed coaches to run Uganda Ultimate for a period of two years (2018-2019). Their vast experience in the game makes them suitable candidates who will aim at taking the team to new heights.
Gakuru for one has been central in Magnum Opus' turn-around of fortunes from just an emerging small team to a big one and a mainstay at least on the local scene.
For journeyman Kisubi, his exceptional exploits in and out of Uganda further warrant his new position. Their first major assignment is to select and prepare the national team for the Africa test return match between Kenya Ultimate and Uganda Ultimate on 2nd June at Kisumu.
The Chairman's Cup, Clubs League, Charity Hat and Seven Hills Classic are some of the competitions spelled out in the federation's calendar.
