Uganda's Winnie Nanyondo has qualified for the women's 1500m final at the ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The 24-year-old was the only Ugandan participant in the Monday early afternoon qualificcation race.

She finished second in heat two with an automatic qualifying time of 4:08.49 minutes, behind Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech (4:08.29).

The first four in each of the two heats and the next four fastest advanced to the Tuesday's final.

Linden Hall of hosts Australia and Scotland's Stephanie Twell also secured automatic spots in the final.

Hall finished third with 4:08.64 and Twell followed with a time of 4:08.66 minutes.

Who Nanyondo is up against

It will be a tough final for Ugandan Nanyondo, considering it will feature the likes of World and Olympic champion Caster Semenya of South Africa.

Semenya finished first in heat one with a time of 4:05.86, followed by Australian Georgia Griffith with a personal best time of 4:06.41 minutes.

Kenyan Mary Wangari Kuria's season's best time of 4:06.58 saw her secure an automatic spot in the final with a third place finish.

Melissa Courtney of Wales finished fourth (4:06.63) in the heat to go through.
