Nankabirwa in helicopter mishap

Nankabirwa had been Chief Guest at a belated Women's Day celebrations that took place at Karujanga in Katuna town council Kabale district.

The Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa and Rukiga Woman MP, Caroline Kamusiime, on Friday escpaed helicopter crash on Makanga Hill, in Kabale Municipality.

Nankabirwa had been Chief Guest at a belated Women's Day celebrations that took place at Karujanga in Katuna town council Kabale district.

Other people who were on board by the time of incident are women councilors from Kiboga district, who had accompanied Nakabirwa.

According to Police, the helicopter Registration number 5X -KEG white in colour belonging to Kampala Executive Aviation rammed into electric wires.

"The incident happened immediately after it had taken off. The helicopter was being piloted by Chris De Wit and his co-pilot Rowon MCharry both South African Nationals and was damaged on the left side by electric wires," said the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate.

He added: "We thank God that he took control of the situation because the helicopter's contact with electrical wire would have made a grave damage to it and our people."

Maate told New Vision that the incident left no one injured.
