Naluwooza wins Taibah Schools Badminton tournament

Tracy Naluwooza's victory at the weekend did not come easy. The 2017 USPA badminton player encountered a tough challenge from her usual rival Shamika Fadilah in the final of the U-15 girls category at the Taibah Schools Badminton tournament at Lugogo.

Naluwooza came from one set down (18-21) to beat Fadilah 21-14 in the second set and then 24-22 in the decisive set to win the title for the second consecutive time.

The Mbogo High School student had earlier beaten Parthi Kanabar (21-4, 21-4) to book a slot in the girls final at the three days event, while her rival Fadilah also thumped Ali Binish 21-4, 21-2 in the other semifinal game on Sunday.

Later, Naluwooza fell to her senior colleague Husina Kobugabe in another thrilling U-19 girl's final at the same venue.

Kobugabe won the opening set 21-18, but the promising youngster recovered later to take the other set 14-21 before the pair settled for a decisive set that saw Naluwooza succumb to 21-19 defeat to finish in  second  place.

Meanwhile, Naluwooza's young sister 9-year old Trisha Kyuusa had a joyful evening after she beat her age mate Joy Isabella (21-6/21-7) to the U-10 girl's title.

In the boys U-19 category, Expedito Emudu humbled his older brother Augustine Owinyi in another interesting final that ended 21-13/24-22.

It was the first time the pair was meeting in the finals and Emudu believes it was what he needed to prove to his  sibling that he was better in badminton.

"I got to learn the game before him (Owinyi) therefore, it would be disappointing if I lost to him," Emudu said after his victory.

In the other categories, Samuel Wasswa beat Paul Makande (21-16/21-18) to the boys U-15 title, while Akbar Oduka and Juma Wabugoya walked away with the U-13 and U-10 titles with victories over Musa Bukenya and Arafat Mutoto respectively.
