Two arrested over growing marijuana

WAKISO - The Police in Wakiso district have uprooted three acres farm of marijuana in Bulwanyi, Ssisa sub-county and consequently arrested two suspected cultivators.

The suspects, who are currently being detained at Bulwanyi Police Station, were identified as Umar Ssentongo, 28 and Hakim Kibwiika,35.

The Police acted on a tip from the landowner, who was supervising his land, only to find some people weeding the forbidden plant.  He ran to the Police for rescue and the Policemen swang in action.

These suspects admitted to having engaged in the trade for nearly seven months, adding that they have been having a steady market in areas of Kikoni and Kisenyi in Kampala.

At the Police station, the suspects have been charged with cultivation of prohibited plants from which a narcotic drug or psychotropic substance may be extracted. The cases have been filed under SD REF: 08/07/03/2018 (Bulwanyi Police Post). This is provided for in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Bill 2007.

The destroyed plants, according to the Police have been disposed of at an isolated location, where public have no access to avoid the negative effects of inhaling the smoke produced.

The Police have affirmed their commitment to visiting communities in Wakiso and speaking to respective leaders to in order to ensure a good working relationship for the safety of the community.
