TRAINING

MUBENDE - Over 1,500 student teachers in five national teachers colleges (NTC) in the country have completed a one-week patriotism training at their colleges.

At least each of the five NTCs has over 300 students who have successfully completed the training.

Beatrice Bananuka, the assistant commissioner in charge of Education and Information Communication at the National Secretariat for Patriotism Clubs, said that they target the teachers because after training, the teachers will reach out to many young people. She was passing out the students at Mubende National Teachers College,

"We emphasised on national consciousness, mindset change and we aimed at imparting skills and values," Bananuka said while citing some of the objectives.

Teachers students were trained for a week

Other areas of focus included constitutionalism and rule, aspects of the country's history from pre-colonial, colonial and post-independence periods, among others.

The Mubende resident district commissioner, Evelyn Kiiza, said the training had produced resourceful and responsible citizens, who would further transform the country.

The programme is a presidential initiative by President Yoweri Museveni. It was launched in 2009.

The ultimate goal is to produce a new breed of enlightened population committed and devoted to national causes, and have love for the country.
